The Salem Media Group in Washington DC (WAVA, 105.1FM & 780AM, WWRC, 1260AM and FamilyTalk, SiriusXM 131) is currently accepting applications from college or broadcasting trade school students majoring in Communications or studying broadcasting  (or a similar discipline) for our Spring/Summer Radio University Internship Program. *This paid internship does not have to be done for credit. Students who desire to get credit must get approval from their college, university or trade school prior to their start date.

The Radio University Program Internship is a part-time learning opportunity (20 hours a week) that runs mostly during business hours. The internship will take place at our radio stations located in Arlington, Virginia and each session runs for eight weeks. A minimum of 150 hours are required and the intern may be asked to work occasional evening and/or weekend hours.  

The right candidate for our Radio University Program Internship will be a detail oriented and organized individual able to deal with multiple tasks in a fast paced environment. They must be able to interact and work well with other staff and have a good attitude and a strong desire to develop excellent skills for a successful career in broadcasting. Internship activities include weekly training sessions with experienced professionals in all radio station departments (administration, management, production, programming, promotions, traffic and sales), and daily training sessions in the programming department on how to operate a standard broadcast console, protect the company’s F-C-C license, successfully execute E-A-S tests and station identifications, log transmitter readings, read and follow program logs, raise and lower power and follow regulations and policies under the direction of the Chief Operator. They will also gain experience with broadcast automation systems, digital audio and digital editing systems and Windows and Linux-based systems and programs. Candidate may also represent Radio University at our station events in and around the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
