TITLE: Director of Development & Stewardship

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting directly to the Executive Director (ED), the Director of Development serves as a key member of the leadership team and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the Chalmers Center. In partnership
with the ED, this post is responsible for all fundraising development activities.
PRIMARY PURPOSE: To strengthen and advance the work of the Chalmers Center by overseeing current Chalmers’ relationships (e.g. financial resource partners, churches, and the public at-large ) while forging new relationships to build Chalmers’
visibility, impact, and financial resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership to the development team by creating a culture of trust, accountability, and sacrificial giving
- Commit to praying for the poor and the church in light of the mission of the Chalmers Center
- Develop and execute yearly, fundraising development/communications plans that include clear short-term and long-range goals that are realistic and challenging with particular focus on growing the donor base
- Assess and grow a development office to support the growing mission and vision of The Chalmers Center
- Support and partner with the ED and board members on all major fundraising initiatives
- Submit annual revenue and budget projections in a timely manner for inclusion in annual budgeting process and manage to approved budget
- Coordinate and collaborate with other ministry directors when aforementioned tasks require the assistance of their staffs
- Create and implement a plan to acquire new names (individuals, churches, organizations) to convert to donor status
- Maintain an active leadership role in major donor and other fundraising efforts, with particular focus on your own portfolio of donors
- Provide staff leadership to the development activities of the board
- Work with the Director of Finance and the Executive Assistant to ensure the accurate and timely reporting of gifts
- Create an operational system that serves both our gift officers and donors well; this must include management of donors information and quantitative and qualitative measurements for gift officers
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Deep commitment to the Vision, Mission, and Values of the Chalmers Center
- Adherence to the Lausanne Covenant, a statement of evangelical Christian belief
- A strong motivation to meet with new people and to share with them leading strategies for building the dignity and capacity of poor people in the context of a local church’s ministry
- Demonstrated love of the local church and its ministry
- A deep commitment to integrity and transparency in all communications
- A desire to minister to people who have been blessed with financial resources
- Outstanding interpersonal relationship skills
- Excellent written and oral communication abilities
- Ability and willingness to travel 75-100 days per year in the US and to the Majority World
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 5 years managing an elite sales or development team
