Job Description:

The Development Director will be responsible for developing and implementing the development strategy for The House DC. Reporting to the President & CEO, the Development Director will be responsible for achieving fundraising goals and engaging sponsors in ongoing activities. This includes leveraging key relationships and contacts within and outside of The House DC network to ensure meeting fundraising goals.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement annual development plan and strategy
  • Lead and manage development efforts to raise an annual budget of 1 million dollars
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations
  • Train and lead other staff to support fundraising efforts
  • Develop and nurture relationships with current and potential individual donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors
  • Develop and manage Board fundraising capacity
  • Develop and execute a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual campaigns; and cultivate major gifts
  • Oversee and coordinate current annual events

 

Qualifications:

  • A passion for The House DC’s vision is essential
  • 10+ years of nonprofit, direct sales or business development experience in a service industry
  • Proven track record of achieving revenue targets and/or a quota of over $1M annually
  • Proven management and leadership capabilities
  • Strong verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of strategic development
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage relationships
  • Strong partnership-building and event planning skills
  • Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who is flexible and adaptable and will productively engage with others.
