Purpose

Through a respectful, constructive and energetic style, guided by the objectives of the AHG ministry, and in collaboration with the Executive Director, the Director of Operations provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that the ministry has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow while ensuring financial strength and operating efficiency.

 

General Responsibilities

Share a Christ-like servant leadership spirit while working with the AHG Staff, volunteers and general public. The Director of Operations (DO) reports to the National Executive Director (ED) and is responsible for the company’s day-to-day operating activities, including revenue and sales growth; expense, cost and margin control; and monthly, quarterly and annual financial goal management. The Director of Operations will be mission-focused, seasoned, strategic, and process minded leader with experience scaling an organization, leading the AHG management team, and developing a performance culture among a group of diverse, talented individuals. The Director of Operations must be a leader who is able to help the Staff deliver measurable, cost-effective results that make the vision a reality. Importantly, the successful Director of Operations will have the skills, sensitivity, and personal confidence to tap into the power and recognize the contributions of each member of the team in fulfilling the mission. The DO is responsible for analyzing and refining the internal organization processes and infrastructure that will position AHG for further growth and impact.

 

Specific Duties including, but not limited to:

I.  Operations

     A.  Work in "lock-step" with the ED, collaborating and communicating in 'one voice.'

     B.  Work with ED to ensure timely and successful implementation of AHG's Strategic Plan.

     C.  Oversee and be responsible for the day-to-day operational duties of the AHG Staff.

     D.  Effectively supervise and motivate the AHG Managerment Team.

     E. Provide practical application and accountabilities to Managers through  their Plans of Work, affording opportunity for successful implementation and use.

     F.  Acquire a functional knowledge of all departments in the organization.

     G.  Maintain current processes while determining effectiveness and potential areas for improvement.

     H.  Provide expert guidance and leadership in goal setting, accountability and measuring the overall effectiveness of ministry leaders and operations.

     I.  Board of Directors - work through the ED to provide staff support and guidance to the AHG Board and act as Staff Liaison to relevant Board Committees.

 

II.  Staff Care and Compliance

     A.  Effectively inspire and lead all staff, modeling servant leadership, in all facets of the ministry.

     B.  Develop relationships with ministry placement groups to attract quality candidates.

     C. Lead a high performing team of Directors and Managers to the next level by further developing and implementing recruitment, training and retention strategies.

     D. Able to accept new ideas with appropriate level of discernment for long term impact.

     E.  Develop relationships with other successful ministries to glean best practices.

     F.  Has sensitivity to changes in social and work environment.

     E.  Ability to achieve results through people; enjoys being a collaborative leader.

     F.  Results - proven track record of exceeding goals and a bottom-line orientation; evidence of the ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment; high level of business acumen, including successful P&L management  and the ability to balance the delivery of programs against the realities of  a budget; problem solving, project management and creative resourcefulness.

     G.  Strategic Vision and Agility - ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the organizational plan.

     H.  Capacity Building - ability to effectively build organization and staff capacity, developing a topnotch workforce and the processes that ensure the organization runs smoothly.

     I.  Leadership and Organization - exceptional capacity for managing and leading people; a team builder who has experience in scaling up organizations; ability to connect staff both on an individual level and in large groups; capacity to enforce accountability, develp and empower topnotch leaders from the bottom up, lead from the top down, cultivate entrepreneurship, and learn the strengths and weaknesses of the team so as to put people in a position to succeed.

     J.  Action Oriented - has great stamina and enjoys working hard, continually looks for challenges; able to act and react as necessary, even if limited information is available; not afraid to take charge of a situation; can overcome resistance to leadership and take unpopular stands when necessary.

     K.  General Management - thorough understanding of finance, systems, and HR; broad experience with the full range of business functions and systems, including strategic development and planning, budgeting, business analysis, finance, information systems, human resources, and marketing.

     L.  Minimum 4 year degree required; Graduate degree helpful.

     M.  At least 15 years of experience; 5 in an executive level position with direct P&L responsibility, such as general manager, director, or vice president of a work force of greater than 50 people with a minimum of 3 years guiding multiple managers and departments with great success.
