Salem Eagle, a conservative publishing company conveniently located near Union Station in Washington, DC, has an immediate opening for an experienced Art Director who is ready to move their career to the next level and to lead an award winning graphic design team. 

The Salem Eagle graphic design team plays a strategic role in communicating and promoting the products/services of our diverse divisions that include book publishing, financial publications, and health products and information.

Key responsibilities include:

• Meet with internal clients, translate business goals and expectations into compelling design options, and direct the creation and production of projects based on each client’s       requirements
• Create a productive working relationship between internal and external clients
• Set standards for creative quality and lead the design team to achieve those standards
• Develop and implement creative strategies across all print platforms
• Develop and manage company branding for marketing materials, books and websites
• Direct and mentor the graphic design team; allocate staff workloads and provide art direction to ensure quality work
• Source, hire and manage freelancers
• Research, quote, and purchase photos
• Work  with the web team to create new designs using provided wire frames and       branding guidelines
• Develop efficient and effective ways to speed the production process without losing sight of work quality
• Develop web advertising including animated gifs
• Monitor the websites and emails to ensure compliance with branding standards and       guidelines

Key qualifications include:

• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field; strong creative abilities and book cover design experience
• Have a proven portfolio of printed work, including book covers, newsletters and direct mail packages
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, and MS Office products
• Ten years of design experience with three years of experience as an art director in a publishing company
• Must have a complete understanding of the print production process including recommending paper stock, using foil stamps and die cuts, preparing files for press, and recommending special finishes 
• Have a proven portfolio of branding including logo development, style guides, and other elements of visual branding systems
• Understand CSS, and HTML using Dreamweaver and WordPress
