POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Facility Maintenance Technician provides ongoing day-to-day maintenance, makes repairs, and uses expertise to problem solve issues in all designated physical plant assets. They must complete assigned work orders, preventative maintenance, and provide assistance and expertise for small projects. They must be able to assist and supervise contractors and vendors. They are required to respond to and perform after-hour emergency repairs. Specific technical requirements include knowledge of and experience in:

  • Construction, carpentry, masonry, appliances, and general building maintenance including but not limited to repairing doors, windows, and roofs.
  • Electrical maintenance to include but not limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, clocks, etc.).
  • Plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, and removal/replacement of toilets, etc.).
  • Skillfully operating a variety of equipment and machines including saws, drill presses, and various hand and power tools to perform repairs and maintenance work.

An ideal candidate uses their experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, but knows when to ask questions. They must be self-motivated. They must be both a team player and able to work independently without supervision to manage maintenance repairs along with providing insight to larger projects. They must have reasoning skills sufficient to troubleshoot and solve problems effectively in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Reports to the Facility Manager.
